A highly modern facility, which has been in operation since 2001, Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport (ATH) is next to Spata, Liopesi, Paiania and Markopoulon. Serving some 14.5 million passengers each year and standing around 32 km / 20 miles to the south-east of central Athens, the airport is easy to reach by a range of transport.
Travel to a vast array of domestic and international destinations is available from Athens Airport and visitors can rest assured that it has an excellent reputation for efficiency. With over 15,000 people working at the facility itself, the airport has been responsible for a major boost in Athens economy and features a neighbouring retail park, which can be reached along the Attiki Odos Highway and comes complete with Olympus Plaza Food Parks.
Ground transportation options to and from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport (ATH) are plentiful, with buses, trains and the highly efficient metro rail service (Monastiraki line) running to and from a variety of destinations in downtown Athens and beyond, such as nearby Kallithea, Kalivia, Rafina and Piraeus, and further afield, Lavrio (south-east) and Chalandri (north-west). The airport itself is linked to central Athens by the Attiki Odos ring road.
